I had the privilege of participating in the 2023 Monster Project, a program designed to help children recognize the power of their own imaginations by recruiting artists to recreate the child's monster drawing in their own style.
When I received my monster assignment, Jake, I noted that he was extraterrestrial, and he appeared to be floating up into space to visit a couple alien friends. I also noted that he liked to eat eggs and he lived in the forest; both of which I wanted to fold into Jake's illustration.
I started by sketching the scene; experimenting with angles, what the aliens could look like, etc.
To incorporate his habitat, I simply created a forrest on earth; signaling where he begun his journey.
Incorporating in his favorite food, eggs, was trickier. After some experimentation, I decided to fold in (no pun intended) his love of breakfast food into the Jake's central story: He was leaving his home on earth to bring his friends breakfast food from his favorite diner.

It was an honor to contribute my work alongside incredibly talented digital artists, and it was a lot of fun too!
